Has anyone tried bringing a 35mm still camera to their shoots, take a picture from where the camera is, develope the film then try to match the look of the digital video to the photgraph in post?
I think this may help, since we have all these tools for getting a film look but how do we know what it would look like if it was taken by film?

That would be fine if what you're trying to match is the look of that particular film stock. But different types of film look different from each other.

i very often use instead of directors finder a photocamera and same time take pics. It works especially fine if You plan to use 35mm adapter - DOF, FOV, colours(if you happen to use film based 35mm camera), overall light conitions.
