View Full Version : XL2 Lens for Digital Camera?

I love the 20X lens Canon provides with the XL2. I have never seen such smoothness and fluidity with a lens. I love it so much, I've been thinking if I could use it with my Digital Rebel SLR.

I know there are EF adapters for the Digital Rebel. I saw one on Ebay a while ago and wondered if the 20X lens would work with a setup like that.

Does anyone have ideas about this?

Sorry, Vishad, it won't work because the XL lenses are made for 1/3" CCDs while you would need a lens for at least an APS-C sized sensor for your DSLR. The XL lenses, if there were an adaptor available, would cause severe vignetting on your digital rebel.

It only works the other way round: you can use EF lenses on your XL1/XL2/XL-H1.

Thanks, Rainer. That's unfortunate, but quite logical.

The images provided by a camcorder lens attached to a DSLR or SLR body - even if it did fit without vignetting - would not provide a worthwhile option anyway. Even though good lenses made for video cameras are difficult to design and can cost more to make, they tend to offer far lower resolution than the top lenses made for the SLR, this is why so many people like to use SLR lenses on digital video cameras via an adapter.
