View Full Version : Videographer and Photojournalist Scott Burbank May 22nd, 2006, 12:26 PM So what is the difference between Videographer and Photojournalist. Is there? What is your definition of both? thanks Scott Chris Hurd May 22nd, 2006, 12:43 PM A photojournalist may or may not be a videographer, but when he or she is a videographer, they're only one specific kind of videographer. Some photojournalists are videographers and other photojournalists are photographers. Not all videographers are photojournalists (other videographers might be wedding videographers, corporate / industrial videographers, etc.). What is your definition of both? thanks Scott My definition is a videographer is someone who makes motion pictures with a video camera, the electronic equivalent of a cinematographer. It a fairly generic term and can cover people working in a fairly broad range of film types and styles. A photojournalist is a documentary photographer working with a still camera making images for editorial use or covering breaking news. Greg Boston May 22nd, 2006, 01:13 PM A photojournalist is a documentary photographer working with a still camera making images for editorial use or covering breaking news. But around here, 'photojournalist' seems to apply to television news as well. Therefore, I take it sort of like Chris stated. You are a journalist who uses images to tell a story be they moving or still. If you were shooting 16mm film for tv news, you'd still be a photojournalist. More to the point, these days when someone shoots a 'package' it is like a ultra-short video documentary, unlike spot news or hard news. I think that's how the tv stations have come to use the term photojournalist. Especially if you are the reporter and camera operator as is the case in some smaller market stations. -gb- |
