A colleague wants to spend $400 for a consumer camcorder. Any recommendations on good values in that price range?

Thank you.

Robert, don't go by lools. Heh heh heh. Lools can be deceiving.

(I'm sorry, I just had to. It's the asshole in me!)

Actually, you can find new Sony D8's in WallyMart for under $400. They do take pretty decent footage, even in low light. Sometimes, in the dark even. The tape is a little more robust than MiniDV I think.

Digital8 will be a PITA when the camera eventually breaks and you can't play your tapes back.

2- It seems that Sony really watered down their newer digital8 models that they aren't that great. Older models can be better.

Glenn:

HOLY SMOKES! I thought I was the only one who invented PITA! That was my kid sister's nickname in the 1970s! HAHAHAHAH! Well, I guess there is such a thing as a collective consciousness after all! Glenn, I've always said you were a genius. You've answered many of my computer editing-related posted questions.
