Finally saw the new Rode Stereo Videomic (SVM),
am I the only one who thinks it's really ugly?

When I first saw it on Rode's own website, I thought
it looked kind of okay... (not pretty, but not ugly, either)
However, once I saw what it looked mounted on a
camcorder, I was really depressed.

I have the old mono Rode Videomic and I absolutely
love it.

After months of waiting for the SVM, I think I'll just
stick with my old Videomic.... :(

This is a sad day indeed.... :( :( :(

That's the way I feel about the Dodge trucks, but people still drive bunches of them. So, asthetics really don't factor in as much as function.

My goodness, who cares how it looks?
Does it sound any good?
Do you buy gear to look at it or use it?

True.... but it make me feel like I was shooting with a
red sponge clown nose on my face.... :)

I always thought that the original one was pretty goofy looking.

The length looks much shorter n definately better for those close up shots.. my current Videomic has got into the way a couple of times!

Just "accessorize" and slide the included "Deadcat" windmuff over the top and you won't have to look at her :) LOL

The CEO from RODE just shipped us a unit to test so I'll snap a few pics all dolled up once it gets here from Australia.

Not a bad idea Guy. I guess the DeadCat will fit ok?

Good old Peter Freedman - he does a good job. Looking forward to your review of the new mic.

I'm guessing the DeadCat will fit ok since it's included with the mic...not a bad price really when that used to be a 30 dollar upgrade or so...so not much more than the original all things factored in and I'm sure it'll come down some once it's been out a while...maybe not the prettiest thing, but if it works like it should it'll be another solution for not much money for a different set of uses...

The RODE SVM ships with the "deadcat" in the box. We just received ours fresh from Australia so I'll be testing it out, so far it is pretty amazing!

How come in the video when they move the mic all around the girl sitting in the chair you don't hear the stereo shift? The SVM I have has much more of a stereo effect.

Good catch Ty, looks like there was some mixdown occuring. All fixed now.

I noticed in your clip that you also used the Canon XL2. Did you feed directly into the front mic minijack?

Yes, front jack.

I don't suppose they have an XLR model, do they? For some reason, using adapters doesn't seem right.

Is thing for sale anywhere yet? I can't seem to locate this on B&H or via Google.

Being XLR would kind of defeat the purpose of the mic and their market strategy...this is for the FX1 users on down...not up the other way...there's plenty of choices out there for those guys and their budgets
