Hi gang,
My monitor is piece of decomposing garbage and I'm looking into buying a new one. All the material I edit is HDV/HD. I'd like to know if it's better to have one 24" monitor or two 19"? What should I look for? Any tips about what I "absolutely" need to properly edit HDV/HD?
cheers

I prefer two monitors. Add up the number of pixels and you will probably find that two monitors makes more sense financially and logistically.
That assumes you have a video card that puts out a component output to an external HD monitor. If not, you may want a huge monitor that can do 1920X1080.

I've been looking into the 19"s and it apears that they only go 1280 X 1024 or 1400 x 900...and HDV is 1440 X 1080...where is that leave me? My idea here is to have one monitor exlusively to view the footage and the other one I would leave with just the editing commands (timeline, effects, project setting, etc).

I suggest an HDTV using the Parhelia APVe. That's what I have seen in use, and what I have on order for my new system.
I edit my HDV on about a 1/4 scale and when I get close I show it on an HDTV to see what I am really doing. Once I can do both of those at the same time I will be a lot happier.
