How should I go about connecting two camcorders? Both will be Sony Digital 8 camcorders with Digital 8 tapes. I need to record a whole tape from one to the other. The first tape has inconsistent timecode and timecode break so I'll be recording it onto a new pre-blacked tape on the other camcorder.

I've heard connecting it through a FireWire cable will not lose any quality, but that person said to use a 4 pin to 4 pin cable. What cable should I use and please offer instructions on the recording part of it, too.

Thanks!

Look at the cameras. Unless I am mistaken all Sonys have the same firewire connection, a 4 pin. Be sure to get a cable with the same connection on each end which fit the cameras.

Plug the firewire cable into both cameras. Put both cameras on VTR. Hit the record button on the camera with the blank tape and the play button on the camera with the tape you want to copy. Walk away for an hour.

Also, there is no reason to record to a "blackened" tape - a brand new tape will do as the timecode will be totally overwritten anyway. Once you hit record, the new tape will get a totally new timecode until you hit stop so, if you are dubbing a full tape, you can't get a timecode break on the copy even with a new tape.
