Want to buy a new FX7? :-) Sony has a program where you can trade in your old camcorder towards a new one at SonyStyle. You can probably get more by selling it on the open market, but it's an interesting option nonetheless. Just for fun I used their estimator and found that my PDX-10 was worth $800 and my VX-2000 would bring $1,000.

This is ridiculous. I just ran the estimator to see how much I could get for my FX1 and it came out as 500$! I can sell it here in spain for 2500€!

My old GL1 came in at $600, which isn't too bad. I could sell it for a bit more on ebay, but the possible hassle might not make it worthwhile. My HC1 was only listed at $700, which is just nuts.

The biggest problem with this is the Sony Style store is far above street price, thereby negating a lot of the savings of the trade-in.

Hmmm... $50-$150 for my Digital 8. It's worth more as a D8 deck and analog pass through converter. It was the last Sony D8 that had analog capture & pass through.

i can get $900 for my GL2, which i would have let go for $1000 anyway...this makes the Sony v. Canon upgrade much more interesting...as it is, i'm having trouble deciding....Canon has maintained the edge so far, but making it this easy to upgrade has its advantages...

Heh, I just tried the estimator with my Z1 and it says it's worth $1,000. That's pretty funny... should I trade my VX-2000 or my Z1.... hmmmm? Perhaps what they're trying to say is that they don't want you to trade in an HD camcorder, they want you to trade in your SD camcorder to buy an HD camcorder.

Well, trading in a car vs. selling always brings in less money. My friend sold his used Saturn for $4000 after the Subaru dealers, when buying his Impreza WRX, offered him around $1500 or so.

so, since this program exchanges for a sonystyle coupon, neither the V1 nor the Z1 is not actually eligible for purchase through the trade-in program, since sonystyle is sony's consumer outlet? is that correct? or am i missing something...bummer.

A month ago I traded in my 6 year-old, battered and barely functioning VX2K (dead battery, broken ac adapter, wonky tape transport, glitchy audio, etc..) for a brand new DCR-HC96. It was a great deal for me as my vx2k was collecting dust.
