I bought an almost new 17" iMac from someone a little over a year ago. I gave him cash, he handed me the computer and the disks that it came with. End of deal. Computer worked fine, no problem there.
About three weeks ago the computer started acting up. I would have to press the power button a few times before it would come on. It Then it would not come on at all. I would press the power button when ever I walked by it to see if it would come on. Sometimes it would. The computer froze one time the other day on a page it was trying to load. I had to shut it down. Now, nothing. It won't come on at all. Even luck is not helping.
I took the puter to Comp USA. They charged me $100 right off the bat. Then he calls me later and say he needs the disks that came with it. I have not seen them in ages. I dig around for about 3 hours and find them and take them up there and go home. He then calls me back and says the problem is probably the power supply or something else (I forget the name of it). He proceeds to tell me he needs the proof of purchase or he can't order any parts for it from Apple. He said Apple will require the PoP to send them parts.
Proof of purchase?? What???? I don't have any stinking proof of purchase. I bought it used. I'm not allowed to own a used Apple?
So, I had to go up there and get my computer back. Now I have a computer that does not work.
Any have any experiece like this? Will Apple really not send parts unless the dealer provides proof of purchase? That's crazy. Stuff like that makes me want to go back to the PC.
What to do?
