Hey Guys,

I was wondering what tools you use to trascode your captured video to h.264? I'm a Winders (Vegas 7) and Linux user and am wondering if there's a transcoding tool you would recommend.

Also, can you give me any pointers that you may have on the h.264 codec and it's intricacies.

Really, my ultimate goal is to be able to transcode my HDV Mpeg2 videos to HD-DVD compatible h.264. I've successfully been burning 1080i HD-DVD's onto red dvd's and would like to move to h.264 so I can fit more video on a disc for playback in my Tosh HD-DVD player.

Any direction would be greatly appreciated,

Can you tell me your workflow to burn HD-DVD content to red DVDs? what render settings are you using in Vegas? what authoring program are you using?

My red DVD's have been made using MF5. I was lucky enough to buy it when the version had HD-DVD and BD support. Here's snippet from my blog, which is a summary of what some of us on the AVSForum were doing:

Method:
Record HDTV OTA 1080i MPEGII material or HDV
Run this file through MPEG-VCR (for OTA)
Load this file into ULead Movie Factory 5
Save the output to a folder
Burn this folder to a standard DVD in HD-DVD file structure
Enjoy 1080i goodness in your home theatre!
