If I'm using a sound devices external recorder with my A1, do I use a slate and run audio at 44.1? What happens if I use 48k or 88.1? Will the FCP timeline accept sample rates other than 44.1?

Final Cut Pro will accept audio rates other than 48KHz on a timeline, however, you will have to deal with the obnoxious rendering problem, and if you want to send the project to Soundtrack Pro, mixed sampling rates in the audio will make that impossible.

Your best bet in the "video world" is always record 48KHz audio so you can mix and match without conversion or constant audio rendering in FCP.

Yes, use a slate, makes life easier. Can he as simple as "documentary style" in which the sound person taps the microphone on camera and maybe says something useful for the editor.

So ... the fact that HDV records audio at 44.1 doesn't affect the sync of audio recorded at 48k? Can I have the 44.1 built in audio as reference and then add the 48k later? Do I need to make a new setup in FCP to accept the 48k audio?
