I have lightwave 7 that I got a while back and was wondering if someone could suggest some good tutorials on the net? And also some for After Effects (which I just got) My friend also told me Ulead Cool 3D is really cool, could someone tell me if it's worth looking into? Thanks to anyone with help. Thanks!

Any inside lightwave book is good. as far as online im unsure. But you might want your friend to transfer ownership of AE from him to you. You can download the form from Adobe's website. That way you can get support and then only pay for upgrade prices. It will save you big bucks in the long run.
I just upgraded from 3.0 to production budle 5.5 for $300 really cheap since the 3.0 was student version.

www.flay.com is the #1 resource on Lightwave 3D stuff right now. And upgrade to v 7.5 if you can. There is a lot of nice stuff there.

Another vote for flay.com (www.flay.com). It is THE place
for LightWavers. I wouldn't upgrade directly to 7.5. LightWave is
a complicated application and I suggest you learn your ways around
it first. Once you get a feeling for it and you still like the application
then upgrade to 7.5.

If you are talking to me, I'm not learning. I dabbled with LW a
couple of years ago but never found the time to seriously look
into it. I do know the manual is quite good and is a must read.
Inside LightWave books are recommended by a lot of people.

I have used Lightwave alot to model and render. I could never get into the animtion of Lightwave. It just wasn't my style. Since then I have moved on to Maya and have found it a perfect fit for me. The animation tools and workflow is what I like. The only thing that I miss is some of the great tools of lightwave. Modeling is simple point to point, while the render is amazing. I thank god they are finally getting a better toolset and shading networks. Lightwave has really changed since I started with it. I think it was 5. Anyways take your time and really go through the tutorials even if you dont think they are worth your time. Each one has something something great to help you understand the toolset that is offered. For somethings I would still go back to lightwave for. I do miss lightwave's render, but I know how to get around it in Maya even though it takes alittle more work, but I think I end up with more control of my scene within Maya. I hope you have a blast with Lightwave I sure did!
