April is shaping up to be a busy month for Apple. New releases due this month include the following, iTunes (with a new download service), DVD SP (offering many new features and tighter integration with FCP 4), FCP 4 (lots of real time effects and new features), Shake 3, OS 10.2.5. Also expected soon are updates to iMovie (bug fixes) and iDVD (bug fixes).

New processors may make their appearance sooner than expected. The IBM 970 is said to be in almost full production and new Desktops may be seen as early as the beginning of May. New PowerBooks may also get new chips (15.4" AiBooks and revised 17"AiBook). Apple is trying very hard to make the 17" the first commercially available laptop with dual processors. This isn't expected until 2004 (if ever).

Rumors of PDA's and iPhones continue to abound. No hard facts though. One rumor that may have some basis, is a small tablet computer for home use, not corporate. Apple may just be testing the water for future tablets.

Latest word is that Monday, 7th will be the day apple announces FCP 4. The short list includes support for DV50, 24p editing and support for FireWire 800.

Another QuickTime upgrade may be required for FCP 4, but it is due any day.

For the most up to date news on Apple check here (http://www.macsurfer.com/). If the news is concerning FCP they will pull the FCP site (http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/) about 20 to 30 minutes before the announcement. MacCentral (http://maccentral.macworld.com/)will probably post a recap after it is over.
