Hey Folks,

I can digitize just fine on my iMac intel 2Ghz DualCore with FCP 5.1.2 (although it seems that you can't view the HDV signal while editing back through firewire to the camera. Is this true?)

What I can't do is digitize on my PowerPC G5. Normally I digitize 10bit uncompessed SD with a AJA box. When I go to hook up the V1U I disconnect the AJA but FCP can't see the camera. Once I believe I had a connection that only allowed me to capture an HDV apple intermediate codec but I don't remeber the details on how that worked. Called Apple and the useless person on the other line said that the camera is not on the supported camera list. Well it's new I wouldn't expect it to be there but I also wouldn't expect Sony to make a camera that is obviously going to be purchased enmass by FCP users to not talk to the software. Is this going to be an update issue with Apple? Am I doing something wrong? Is it Intel vs. Power PC? Thanks for youur thoughts and I'd appreciate knowing if this has happened to anyone else.

Dave

Seems that we're seeing a variety of problems capturing under FCP 5.1x on the G5's. If the same thing works OK on your Intel machine then I'd assume it's a software and not a camera issue (have seen similar reports with other cameras) so I'm moving this thread to our Mac editing forum. I'm on a dual G5 and still use FCP 5.0.x... no capture problems with my Z1.

Unfortunately FCP doesn't support realtime HDV monitoring over firewire, regardless of the version or machine type. See the following for more info: http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=85342
