In the past I was using the SDI output to download 24f material to FCP.

Now that I have the latest FCP (5.1.4) I wanted to try downloading HDV 24f 1080 to FCP via Firewire.

On the XL H1 in my signal setup box I find that the SIGNAL SET menu is dimmed when I connect the firewire cable and I am therefore unable to change it to HDV.

I tried searching the forum for an answer to this, with no luck.

By the way, I did get the new Canon firmware update which came out maybe about 6 months ago.

Many thanks.

You have to set the XLH1 before you hook it up to the firewire. This has come up many times so I guess we can call it a Gotcha. HTH

Harrumpphhhh.

Thank you very much for your reply.

I did what you suggest - set up the H1 prior to connection. No problem.

But the moment I insert the firewire cable, the settin reverts and dims out.

Where do I go from here, O Wise One?

And, again, many thanks for your time.

Also, Daniel, I changed the firewire cable - just in case. Still NG.

Try these steps:

1) Go to Audio/Video Settings in FCP.

Sequence Preset: HDV - 1080p24
Capture Preset: HDV
Device Control: HDV firewire

2) Go to the xl-h1's menu and make sure the output signal is HDV 1080.
Also, make sure the "downconvertion" option is disabled.

3) Try to capture.

Harry,
Sorry you are still having problems. See page 113 of the manual. You can see there are several settings which interact which may be causing the camera to think it can't let you do what you want.

Also See the AV to DV setting as well as the ones Andrea mentions. Also check the settings in both camera and VTR mode since some become disabled in one or the other mode. HTH
