Very strange, the files disappeared from my FTP.
But I put them back. Now the link is working fine.

Andrea, absolutely stunning, and, as John said...nice shoes. Honestly, that was great stuff. I will be spending two weeks videoing in Brazil's Pantanal region the end of June. Any suggestions on special equipment? Should I bring a rain cover for my XL-2? We will also be doing Iguazu Falls and the National Parks around Rio. Can't not wait to visit Brazil. Bob

Thanks, Bob!

Pantanal is a beautiful place....lots of alligators...hehehehe...I am kidding. Yes, you should bring a rain cover, thats for sure.
My suggestion for you is to not bring lots of equipment, you can find equipment to rent in Rio de Janeiro or in any other Brazilian Capital.

That's weird, I couldn't see anything except white. Was this encoded as a Quicktime 7 Mac codec? Don't play on PC

Andrea,

Great shots. It's interesting to see the two shoe commercials (Jonas Nystrom's and yours). The European style is more understated, where it takes awhile to figure out what the product is; versus the Brazillian style (similar to North American), where the product is very much apparent.

When I worked for a commercial production company in the early 90's, it was all about the 'product shot'. We didn't dare leave the audience guessing as to what the commercial was about.

I thank you all for the nice comments.

My husband, Alvaro Beck, did the direction and the photography of these commercials. He told me he used the standards lens (20X Zoom Lens).
Also, two filters: Circular Polarizer and the UV.

He told me the city he was shooting, called Salvador - Bahia, on July had a nice light, a very high luminosity. Because of that, he was changing some presets of the camera all the time. See the presets he used below:

ND - Between 1/32 and 1/6
Shutter - Between 60 and 48
Croma - between -5 and -4
Cor - 9
Gamma - Cine2
Black - Press
Ped - between -7, -6 and -5
Set - between -4 and -3
Shapness - between 7 and 6
Color Mat - Cine 2
Colo gain - between -5 and -4

We didn't use mini35 and it was HDV, recorded on a tape.

I think that is all. If you have any more question, I am happy to answer.

looks very nice. I may want the women to come with the shoes though ;) My only grip is the women are all in action shots, but then the shoes are %80 filmed 'static', kind of throws the flow of it off for me, especially since their legs are usually wide stance, then the shoe shots the feet are always together, and don`t seem to be in the same locations as the women. I personally would have included at least one shot connecting the legs to the women as well, as a shot either shows the upper part of the body, or just the feet, again feels disconnected to me.

Very nice! Congratulations!
While we can debate over the content and direction, sometimes the client wants it his way, that shouldn't take us from appeciation for the quality of the camera and good work of Director of Photography!

Just curious of how did you encode video for the internet, the quality is amazing for file size!

Thanks, Oleg!

The file is encoded by quicktime 7. It is a H.264 file, the best that I know.

You are right, Nathan. But it was planned to be like that. Its a very common language among the commercials here in Brazil. The product and the model doesn't have to be connected all the time. We call it "pack-shot". The client gave us 9 pack-shots to be inserted in the 3 commercials. Each commercial has 15 seconds. Making a connection between model and shoes would take a long time, and we would miss a lot of beautiful images, breaking the mood.

interesting, so did they give you footage of the feet and just have you film the models and scenery? (sorry it seems a little unclear to me if a 'pack-shot' is something preshot, or a 'must include') The camera work and image quality are great, I was just looking at it as a whole production rather than just marveling at the H1`s ability. A great tool doesn`t make great productions, great people who use them do.

No, they didn't gave us any footage. Sorry if I didn't explain the process very well. It is a "must include", like you said.

I completely agree with you. A great tool doesn't make great productions.

Andrea, I am taking your advise and will get a rain cover for my XL-2 prior to heading down to Brazil. I will be there last two weeks in June. Thanks for the advise. Bob

Hey Bob!
One more advice.
You should bring a very good insect repellent as well.
Sometimes you are gonna need it.
Hope you enjoy your trip to my country.
:)

And Mike,
Feedback like your keeps me going.
Thank you so much.
