Hi Johnson and welcome to DVinfo. I moved your post to our "open DV discussion" forum since "alternative imaging" is really about home-built cameras.

Are you using a PC or a Mac? One way to do it with either system would be sending analog s-video from your graphics card to a DV camera if it supports that feature (most better cameras do). My Mac laptop already has an s-video port on it, so I can connect it to my VX-2000 (for example) and capture any activity. You can choose to treat it as either a second extended desktop screen or a mirror of the built-in screen, but either way all I would need to do is open a web browser window on that screen and I could tape any activity.

I'm sure you can also do something similar on the PC, but I don't have any experience there. I'm also sure there are utility programs which can capture screen activity to a Quicktime file on the Mac.

Thanks for the welcome and reply Boyd. I am a PC user. I have an XL H1. I am not quite sure if I have an s-video input at home but no doubt I have access to PC with one somewhere. I will have to explore your second option. I assume a quicktime file would work in Vegas.

Sounds good Johnson - based on your response I've moved this one more time... to our PC editing forum. I'm sure someone there will have a few ideas for you since the topic has come up before.

This may be a bit overkill for you, but I have one and it does the job along with several others - about $550, you can even get it from one of our sponsors -

Johnson,

since you're on a PC, you can use Windows Media Encoder for screen capture, free from the Microsoft download site.

FYI, B&H is unfortunately no longer a DVinfo sponsor...

Depending on the scope of your project, and your budget, I find this to be very effective.
