I saw Adobe's web page this morning and I'm surprised that I couldn't see anything about AVCHD support. I was hoping that Premiere would be the first one with full support but I think I was just dreaming. Anybody knows about this?

if I don't remember wrong, premiere also never can do mpeg2 editing directly. it replies on OEM hardware or software driver to do the codec part before and after editing. it'll well be the same for mp4 as well as AVCHD...

It is a safe bet that .m2ts files will be able to be imported into Premiere Pro CS3. Anyone care to take the bet against it just to make it interesting?

that may be posible but I bet it would come as a plugin but not from premiere itself. Plus the plugin may convert .m2ts into massive HDDV file for edit.

Guys, don't wring your hands about all the deficiencies just yet! Even the very minimal product info linked earlier in this thread clearly says that HDV is handled natively without conversion. And about AVCHD, well, not explicitly mentioned in that pdf, but it may well fit into the "...and more" category. Patience is a virtue; I'm sure it won't be long until more info is available one way or the other.

I too have been questioning whether Premiere Pro 3 will support the new AVCHD files.

Turns out, It looks 99.9 percent likely it will. Adobe is releasing free to the public a beta premiere Pro 3 version. They have listed all the things the beta version cannot yet do, and it states that it cannot import or export H.264 (AVCHD) files. So YAY! I think it will.
