Ok, capturing from DV.....Does it require more/less space than simply capturing from an external source like a DVD player or VCR using Vegas or similar???

However, generally speaking if you import via FireWire the signal at some stage is probably being converted to DV. If the capture is via another capture device (via analog inputs, component inputs etc.) the file might be uncompressed. Many uncompressed Codecs are platform specific.
