i've been capturing downconverted (HD-SD) footage from the FX1E for a year now, no problem.

Now i have a faster, more decent PC setup, and am ready to move to HD editing.

Trouble is the preview capture window goes blank (with the word 'Capturing') whilst actually capturing the footage...it never used to this with SD footage.

is that meant to happen? can i change it?

You can preview the capture on the camera--just flip open the LCD screen. I don't know about PPro 2.0, but on 1.5.1, previews of HD captures are all on-camera, and the extra CPU cycles gained by not previewing on screen are redirected towards capturing and converting the video to whatever format (Cineform, for me).

A free capturing utility called HDVSplit will let you watch the footage while capturing it.

Funny, the reason I use HDVSplit is to capture the entire tape using Scene Detect, so I don't have to watch what I capture.

I was going to mention HDVSplit (sure,sure, I know y'all believe me!!) but I couldn't remember if it allowed preview during capture--plus, don't you still have to convert to CF if you don't want to edit M2T (or don't have PPro 2/Vegas, etc), but do want to edit the 1440x1080 capture and not a down-converted stream?

Sure, you do have to convert from M2T to the Cineform HD AVI in order to use an Aspect HD project. However, if you are like me, you throw out a lot of scenes. If so, just converting the ones you want to use saves time. It also allows me to file away the M2T and throw out the CFHD AVI when backing up a project because I know I can always convert it again if needed.

So, there is NO video preview during capture of HDV. Thanks Adobe.................. and thanks for making it so clear in the docs.
