I removed some media files from my external drive by accident. I had a rough cut of the love story interview and the in and out points are still marked on the timeline. The clips on the timeline still showing up but media is offline (and gone). I recaptured the tape. To save time...are there any ways of linking the recapture to what I have marked in the timeline. Trying to save some time.
Thanks,
John

which NLE is it?

from memory, if its Premiere Pro i think you right click on the 'old footage' icon in your media list, and press 'replace footage' to swap it with your new clip...it'll have to be the same time-length though

if you use Vegas and you still have the VEG file recapture the tape, use the same naming protacol and capture to the same place - good to go.

Sorry... I didn't give the NLE. I am using FCP

Sounds like you can just batch digitize the offline footage. I've never used FCP, but in Avid and Premiere it's as simple as highlighting the offline footage in the bin and finding the "bBtch Digitize/Capture" command.

This program works great to recover recently deleted files: http://www.r-undelete.com/ worth the money in time it takes to recapture and all. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS and choose which one you need...FAT or NTFS.

I've never been able to reimport footage and sync it up using FCP. I've read all the manuals, and do what your suppose to do, it just never syncs right for me or won't even start capturing. That is when I do a capture now and capture the entire tape the first time around, which is part of the problem.

Let me know if you figure it out.
