I don't know what I am doing but I am getting what looks like interlace artifacts capturing 24p in Vegas 4 at 24p using the template in Project Properties
NTSC DV 24p (720x480, 23.976 fps)
720 X 480
none (progressive scan )
23.976 (IVTC Film)
0.9091 (NTSC DV)
Deinterlace method = NONE

Is there some thing I am missing or should do?

are u using a PC monitor or external when viewing?
It could be your monitors interlacing...

0) Do you have the 4.0b update?
1) Was the clip captured with the Sonic Foundry Video Capture program or something else? With scene detection on?
2) Does the clip show as 23.976 in the Media Pool (or Media Properties)?
3) Was the clip shot in 24p or 24p Advanced mode?
4) Does the interlaced frame show up every forth frame, or when?
Through the whole clip, or only part of it?

if ur not using 4b of vegas, it could be that.
I have notices alot of "flickering" and combing on the pc screen, but when monitoring on a television, it looks fine...

Hey dennis, i was just wondering, you know how in Vegas Capture u can set the default frame capture rate? Could this be an aspect of this type of distortion?

Are you talking about the "custom frame rate" setting? That's just used for analog captures. The DVX100 (being a DV device) doesn't use that.

I need someone to send me a short clip and a project that exhibit this problem, because I can't get it to happen.

Hi Dennis.

To answor your questions.

0) Do you have the 4.0b update?

Yes have Vegas 4.0b

1) Was the clip captured with the Sonic Foundry Video Capture program or something else? With scene detection on?

Captured in 24p via Vegas 4.0b

2) Does the clip show as 23.976 in the Media Pool (or Media Properties)?

Yes the clip shows 24p in both windows media an viewer 23.976.

3) Was the clip shot in 24p or 24p Advanced mode?

Clip was shot in 24p. Use the preset but dropped to 1/24 shutter from 1/60.

4) Does the interlaced frame show up every forth frame, or when?
Through the whole clip, or only part of it?

NO I has artifacts at sporatic parts not like a set every 4 frames.

Where can I upload a source to you?

No scene detection was enabled!

That's probably the problem. If there was a cadence break, the 24p inverse telecine would get off and produce bogus interlaced frames.

If this isn't the problem, drop me an email at dithermaster at hotmail * com and I'll shoot you an ftp address to upload a small clip.

Dennis

After rereading your suggestions I realized that I was only looking at the interlaced artifacts on the computer monitor on rendered clips. The clips would play fine encoded mpeg2 using PowerDVD and would look interlaced using MS Media Player.

Most of all after reading what you wrote I realized that playing them back via firewire through my AG-DV2000 deck to my color Trinitron ntsc monitor all looked absolutly great. Man-o-man lots of days trying to fix something that wasn't broken. It had me pulling my hair out.

Again thanks ever so much!
