I have a Canon XH-A1 and HV20.

I am always wondering how one can achieve the look (colors and richness) of a CSI Miami intro sequence. (looks like a helicopter shoot over Miami).

The colors are just so bright and lively.

Any suggestions on filters, camera settings, time of day for the shot?

crank the saturation up, they do alot of color overlays on stuff to accentuate the main colors in their shots too...lots of orange gradiated filters as well to orange up the sky...way more than I feel is necessary. It shouldn't draw attention to itself that heavily.

You can do all of these color effects in post. Shoot saturated, over saturate in post, then make a second layer over the clip and change the compositing mode to whatever looks best. The second layer is just a gradient of what ever color you're trying to cast over it...or a solid color (which you can do using a color corrector as well).

I think they use a lot of bleached out shots. South Florida also has a lot of the op art deco motif. Hard to duplicate with settings alone.

canon xh-a1, some 3-way color correction (pushed colors to warm side) and an orange gradient in final cut.

Sorry Bruder I was in my little universe for a while.
No I dont speak German,but my Grandmother used to when she was alive and I picked up alittle bits and pieces over the years.But when you dont use it you lose it.Now I regret it.Well it is never too late.Some time in the future I want to visit Berlin and hopefully I will learn enough to get by and maybe even get together with you too.Hey you never know.

This one is very good, alot cheaper than the Look Suite, and uses no additional plugins, all built from within After Effects, so render time is cut down by miles compared. Also included is some film transitions and burns/fades that work just as good as Magic Bullet Optical plugin.

This guy also does a free frame rate convertor too, that works faster than the Bullet core plugin.
