hello,

I was assuming that the safe area is about 90% of the full 16x9 frame, but, apart from when viewing the video in a computer (or in some of these DVD player that allow to view the full frame in tv) ,in the discovery channel (for instance), the 16x9 documentaries seem to show the upper and lower sides completely ,adding a horizontal black stripes and cutting the right and left sides. In this case the vertical safe area is 100%

I'm confused about this, shouldn't it be better assume a lets say 95% safe area and be careful about what appears in the full frame?

thanks

Don't assume anything. HDTV's still have a title safe area. Not sure what it is but I believe 90% is safe. I was just working on a game and had to make sure stuff that showed up was title safe so I know there is definitely a title safe zone. I would think most editings packages would have that viewable for HD.

thanks, I've read the tittle safe area is 80% , and all vid caps I've done from TV follow this rule, but I was refering to image viewable safe area
