Now that I've got a fairly powerful PC, for my next wedding shoot I'm going to try editing native m2t files - rather than having the camera (Z1) downconvert. At the moment, though, final output will be to standard DVD (DVD Architect). I'm just wondering what would be the best way to future proof my project so that when the time comes to produce a HD version, I have to do minimal rework. Should i set the project up as a 720x576 (PAL land by the way) and just import .m2t files onto the timeline, or should I set the project up as 1080-50i? Or doesn't it really matter?

Just do your project as HDV. When you render at the end, you can either nest or just change your render settings to NTSC DV Widescreen.
