Being it is the time of year many can get out I thought i would start a thread with a few short clips shot today before the rain hit.
Would be great to see some others short clips. Resolution is about half.

Here is the last portion of what was one clip of 3.6 mega bytes.

It was very windy, it is the prairies, and i cut out as much of the wind noise as i could. the mic was on the inside of the blind as well with a wind muff over hte foamy.
we had to be out there by 4:00 am to be there before the grouse. I also have some footage of the cocks getting sleepy on the lek, so i reckon they do not like getting up that early either!!!

I liked the Owl footage. The swaying made it feel like you were there in the trees' with them! Very nice looking.

The "grouse" sure is an interesting animal.

How do you go about finding these creatures? I can't seem to get any info on how you go about finding animals...

Dale, nice shoots! Did you film the grouse with ef-lenses? I'm asking cause I've found that ef-lenses with the Canon-xl series cause a greenish tint in the picture. And your film of the grouse seem to have some green tint?
I have modified a preset where I adjust the red up a couple of clicks and the green down a couple. Just experiment some and I think you will be able to adjust the colors to match for blending footage together from the stock lens and ef-lenses.

The owls showed active interest in your presence and seemed so peaceful and curious that it's hard to believe they had recently pushed a sibling out of their nest. You caught the plumage on the grouse very nicely in the evening light. Many happy returns with more clips.

per Johan, The grouse were actually shot with my standard lens. right now the greens are pretty vivid out there, definitely need to be toned down a ways. I had my ef lens on and ready but they came in so close I could not use it. I think my white balance was off a bit as well. I have a white balance preset that mkes things a tad reder, the owl was shot on it, but at dawn with the light as it was it did not give me a good image. I should have white balanced but was unable to do that once the sun was up.
always things to learn and get better!!!

Gabriel, field craft only comes with experience. also, I have lived in this rural area for 27 years and have names for most family groups of wildlife and can find them on any given day. I get out a lot and I am on an intimate basis with the local wildlife.

I will be in washington and bc June 30th. One of my main purposes for this road trip is to film a pair of nesting bald eagles.

Very nice, Dale. From your comments I assume these were taken using the XL2. Is your OWOL #3 challenge footage with the GL2. I'd love to see a comparison of the footage from those two cameras.
