I am strongly considering getting the Nikon D40 (seems easiest for me to use) and wanted to know if these lenses would fit on the Redrock Micro set-up:

Thanks,

I think they need to be manual AI mount lenses to work on any adapter - Redrock or otherwise.

Heath, the simple answer is no. As Eric says, you need manual lenses. There are some AF lenses that you can use, but they must have a manual aperture ring and the ability to override the auto focus.

The new DX lenses won't work either as they project too small an image on the ground glass.

What you need is a range of super-fast and super-sharp manual prime lenses. It doesn't matter if they are 40 years old as long as they're clean and still function. Second hand nikon AI's are cheap and ebay is fully of them. Also, you can buy brand new glass from Zeiss if you want to waste your money.

Don't consider any lens slower than f2.8 unless it is for outdoor usage or you've got a truck load of lights.

BTW, the D40 offers good value but I'd get the D200 if you can.

Hope that helps,

Liam.

That's what I needed to know. I'm going to buy the D40 because I'm new to DSLR and it's perfect for me. I'll probably pick one up by the end of the summer.
