Just assembled my new mic holder on FX1 and everything came out fine.
Black spacer ordered it from John Woo in Singapore $18.00 parts & shipping and received it after 2 weeks. Mic holder $71.00 shipping included. Now I can use the shoe mount for lights.

nice job! was it easy to fix? I've got the rode as well. I'm wondering if it gets in the way on the right?

The Rode video mic fits perfectly on the right side and it does'nt get in the way, you can turn where the battery is away from the body I just remove the shock mount so it won't look cluttered, I was to ready to buy another shotgun mic but when I tried the Rode which I already have and it looks good and thats it.

Attaching the spacer to the FX1 was easy, I removed the plastic cover first to see how the hole mounting is, than drilled a hole in the plastic cover and place it back, than I attach the mic holder. Fixing it took me like 15 minutes.

Looks really great. I'm thinking of doing this to my own FX1, but am a little hesitant because it's brand new. Is there anywhere that very carefully outlines what I need to do in order to successfully do this?

This is John Woo. I am the guy who sold the spacer. There is a very detailed instruction from a Japanese guy who also did the same thing to his FX1. You can referred to it and see how simple the steps is if you have all the components.

For unscrewing the 2 small screws, I used the Jewelers smallest screwdriver not philips, that's the only tricky part since the screws are so tiny, the rest is easy.

Sean, are you using Rode Videomic? I have a picture showing it mounted on FX1 with the mic holder.

I have the Rode Video Mic, too, but I still attach it to the camera's stock hot shoe mount. I've noticed that it picks up a fair bit of bumping noise when I move around - even when I'm careful to move smoothly. Do this improve with the right side mount?
