I'm about to have 1,000 DVDs duplicated and am preparing the DVD in DVD Architect. The software offers me the ability to master the DVD, but I'm wondering if that is something I should pay the duplicator to do. I don't know if they have any tricks or special settings for their setup that are worth a few dollars. Thoughts?

Dana I hope you mean replicated, not duplicated...I wouldn't duplicate anything more than 400 units.

For DVD mastering, ask the replicating company what that actually entails. They might mean a simple authoring software or heavy duty encoding/authoring & testing.
