I've got brand new mini-dv stock (Panasonic 63 ME, DVM63, Mini-dv Master) and when I play the blank stock in my DSR-11, it reads as though it's formatted as DV-CAM.
Anyone have any idea what's going on here?
Thanks.

The playback machine may always be defauted to DVCAM playback on boot-up until it detects another signal type. There being no other signal on a raw tape, the machine is simply telling you its current operating state.

That should be easy to test - just pop in a tape from another manufacturer. But I'm a little confused here... I never saw a tape that was "pre-formatted" with anything myself. When you actually record something on the tape that should put the data in the correct format, so why is this a problem for you?

My pedantic way with wordstuff has brought me undone again.
I should have said "there being no signal", not "there being no other signal."
