This is my second test of the Rode VideoMic. In this video, I explain what clipping is, how to avoid it, and what it actually sounds like. I also have a demo of the RVM's 3 attenuator settings. I used the Panasonic GS 500 for these tests. Click on link below to view it.

hi robert
I found your test of the rode videomic quite usefull.
I just have a question.
Is it possible that there were videomics produced without an attenuator?
because I can't find it in mine, nowhere!

Yes, from reading around, it seems that the original RVMs (year in half or older) do not have the 3 attenuation DIP switches. Because of the mic being so hot, Rode added them later. I assume you just have to do all your adjustments on your cam.
Does anyone have one of these older models? What do you do?

In fact I use the on camera attenuator (AG-DVC30) though in noisy environments I have the record level on the Pana XLR box way low, but I guess if I had a newer model of the videomic with the built in attenuator it would be welcome.
