View Full Version : 3D Anaglyph plugin/filter for FCP?

Does anyone know of an Alaglyph (red/blue) filter that will work inside Final Cut Pro?

After Effects has the "3D Glasses" plug-in, but it won't work on an Intel Mac in FCP.

Any thoughts? I prefer to keep everything native without exporting media to a 3rd party piece of software.

BTW, I did figure out a way to do it that isn't terribly difficult once you do the first one. I found a similar method for Photoshop and stereo still photos and applied the concept to FCP.

Place the RIGHT side image on V1
Place the LEFT side image on V2
3637
Align the subject by temporarily bringing V2's opacity to 50% and adjusting the x,y position of one or both of the clips. Return V2 clip to 100% opacity.
Place the LEVELS filter on V1 RIGHT clip and select RED. Bring the Output and tolerance to 0.
3634
Place the LEVELS filter on V2 LEFT clip and select BLUE. Bring the Output and tolerance to 0.
Place the LEVELS filter on V2 LEFT clip and select GREEN. Bring the Output and tolerance to 0.
3635
CTRL-click the LEFT clip (V2) and select SCREEN MODE.
3633

That's it. Now you can copy and paste attributes. I'd still love this to be in plug-in form though.

Patrick Sheffield saw this thread and kindly emailed me a link to a new anaglyph plugin he's working on for Final Cut Pro.

It is in beta 0.1 right now and can be downloaded for free.

Tim:
try to make the two stream in two different file, and make those files with stereoscopic player realtime in anaglyph! Or something similar player for MAC!
If not, you get color compresson that looks bad (ghost) for 3d
(every compresson use this method divx, xvid, qt, wmv...)

Tim,

Thank you for this. We converted a video into 3D Anaglyph using this method and added thanks to you on the videos we uploaded online. We will use this technique for other videos in the future, as well.

video: Dailymotion - 2009 3D Movies in 3D Anaglyph - a Film & TV video (http://www.dailymotion.com/user/exploretv/video/x9bkbw_2009-3d-movies-in-3d-anaglyph_shortfilms)

We've also used Spatial View's SVI Stereo 3D Editor plugin for Adobe After Effects to convert a HD video of a Thai girl into 3D Anaglyph as well.

I'm about to put up a new version that lets you move left and right and up and down if necessary to fix camera alignment.

Free beta Anaglyph plugin found here: Sheffield Softworks Plugins for Final Cut Pro (http://sheffieldsoftworks.com/)

Patrick.

Do you write your plugins in FXScript or FXPlug? Can it render in real-time on a mac pro?

I've been examining Peter Wimmer's formula (http://www.3dtv.at/Knowhow/AnaglyphComparison_en.aspx) for optimized anaglyph and attempting to recreate it in FCP.

I'll check out your clips Al as soon as I find my pair of anaglyph glasses. I know they're around here somewhere!
