yes, it's time to pay tribute to the membrane which ties all corners of the planet together, the elixir of life...let's explore the mysteries of--

WATER

go under it, in it, above it. camp next to it. slo mo it. stick your jib in it, right per?

but most of all....have fun with it.

entries will be judged as usual, for excellence of footage but also for how the theme is implemented.

Hahahaha..... Man, it happens every time.... I just got back from the Olympic north west a couple days ago... Went out on to a absolutely beautiful lake! And well I was at it, I saw three awesome waterfalls... If only this was announced BEFORE I went.. lol! All well.. Looks like I might be heading back out to the same lake I got my Crane footage from. :D

Great theme though! I can already predict where some will most likely go. Can't wait to see them!

I hope something will pop into my head.....

Best of luck everyone!!!

Whoo Hoo! I'm sitting here in Laguna Beach watching the waves roll in.

Course, the hard part will be to turn it all into something meaningful.

Maybe not that unexpectedly, but what a great theme Meryem :)

I wish everyone a great time in making something out of this topic and I'm also looking forward to watch your entries. Let's go out there and do some beautiful horizons, let the uwol-boat drift away carried by the wind and a sail filled with great ideas.

hmmm, definitely the potential for some great films here, but as for me Im not sure how much Ill be able to do, seeing as though Im not really anywhere near water. Might have to think creatively here...

whoa ho ho here...no excuses with this one, people, remember this is the membrane that binds the planet!...or as someone already said, "water water everywhere"...the possibilities are infinite. the problem isn't one of "not enough," the issue here is "too much" and finding an interesting and original angle....

Hmmm. I live in Lake County Florida. That leaves it pretty open. And I will be spending the end of this week on vacation in California. Pacifica to be exact. And the family reunion is at a house across the street from the beach and a pier. And I only live 50 miles from the Atantic coast and about 50 from the Gulf of Mexico.

However, there is this really neat fountain at Epcot that children play in all the time. And then there is the Epcot fountain that changes to music.

Then there is the Fantasmic show where they project movies on the fountain. A one day pass at Sea World is really an annual pass for Floridians.

Yikes! A plethora of riches. How to decide?

Just a reminder about what W.C. Fields said about water....

"I can't stand water because of the things fish do in it."

You are less than two hours to some pretty cool waterfronts. I checked!

Still, a lot farther than my travel requirements. ;)

My camera is allergic to water!

Haha.

Seriously though, I like this theme. I already have some ideas - and i live in the middle of the desert!

This should be fun. :-)

My camera is allergic to water.

Oh, so this is why my camera complains when it is raining. haha.

I got some ideas, but the hard part will be to make a story out of it.
It will be fun anyway. And that's what it is all about.

Good luck, and have fun everyone!!!

I went out yesterday to scout a few locations, no camera it looked like it may rain. The rain did come along so it was just as well that I did leave it home.

Anyway I made an amazing discovery..."watching water is boring" no matter what it does its just simply boring.

Conclusion this challenge is going to be more difficult than I first thought.

I can't wait to see how everyone deals with this theme, it's going to be fun.

Water can be a symphony of movement. I film it whenever I have a chance.

That's the real part of the challenge is seeing something that you normally don't see.

Throw a rock into a still pond and watch the ripples distort the reflections on the water.

Watch as a piece of duckweed spins in a circle letting you know that there are invisible currents at work.

How the heck does a water strider stay on the surface of the water?

Do a time-lapse of the tide coming in or going out.

Water is never boring. Heck, it's the essence of life. There always has to be something going on. :)

Course, if anyone uses these ideas and didn't think of them on their own, I want credit! :)

No, just kidding. :)

Anyway, there's a ton you can do with water.

My problem is an idea pops in my head and that's it. No matter if I can;t make it work or not, I'm stuck and I can't force my brain into thinking of another idea.

ok, you two, off to tales of wonder and woe...!

it's shameless plug time!

what better time to check out our sponsors' sites:

http://uwolchallenge.com/contactslinks.htm

if you click through our site to make a purchase at marine visions, joe holley will make a donation to our challenge. nice! he's also a terrific resource for us, willing to answer your questions and help newbies to underwater shooting to get started. this is a perfect opportunity to support your local UWOL Challenge and learn a new skill. help me pay for those ridiculously expensive international shipping fees (which currently come out of my pocket....)

either that, or one of you norteamericanos better learn some skills, so that i can afford this Challenge!

also, don't forget to white balance that camera! DSC Labs is giving away their professional white balance/critical focus cards, the Handy CamFocus, to our winners...even if you don't win our (highly! competitive!) contest, you can still purchase one of these babies and still win theirs:

DSC charts are the best of breed. check 'em out.
