What are we looking at (beyond the obvious), Andreas? What is special about it?

I think it has a nice composition. Clear shot. Nice.

I?m sorry, I should have been clearer about what it was.
This is another picture from my project "saltomortalez" Read more here

This is part of the intro of the movie where a gymnast is preparing for a big jump. I just wanted comments on lightning, emotion and stuff like that... Comment "I like, I don't like" comments...

Quite good DOF for a XL1 standard lens? His hear is out of focus.
This is a frame grab with color correction, contrast and then converted to B&W...

Plus I wanted to show people who not yet own a XL1 what they can achieve...

I liked the shot, but until you explained how you'd captured it, it was just a nice shot.

I agree about the DOF. This shot nicely shows what the XL1 can do. Whether or not it's as good as film is moot IMO...it's damn good in its own right.

Aha, well in that context it's an interesting shot. I might be tempted to do a slow creep to his eye, where a reflection of the equipment he's about to attack gradually begins to appear to the audience. Meanwhile, I envision the ambient sounds of a gymnasium being gradually drrowned by the swelling sound of an increasing heartbeat. Thump-thump......thump-thump..thump-thump.thump-thump..

OK enough for my runaway imagination.

So I guess this means that you done good, Andreas! <g>

I promise I will put up the final version when it's done..
I still need to get some shots of him running. And I'm working on getting the right feeling with sound and hevy breathing..

Thank you for the kind words!

So, I've finished the intro..
still lack music but sound effects are there (But low)

I hope you guys/gals don't mind me when I post stuff
like this all the time. I just want opinions and hints on what
I can do better. If I bother anyone with my posts just tell me
and I'll lay off these posts..

I liked it. Good lighting and editing.

Love those shots where you can see the particles fly off someone.

The only thing I might do would be place a small light so that as he goes out of the light off the end of the tramp that there's a flash of him in mid air before he disappears completely.

care to share some of the technical aspects of this with us as far as what camera, what post work and other details?

I thought it was excellent. Please do continue to share these with us!

Also please do share some of the production and post-production details, too. What camera? What method did you use to achieve the slo-mo?

What comes after this sequence?

You hit the TV commercial feeling a 100% correctly the way it is now. The shots are very clean and the emotions portrayed are just like in a commercial. I don't understand whether this is a short film, documentary, commercial or something else you are trying to do.

IF you want it to get a more film like feeling you have to shoot the "obstacle" and inter cut it with our heros reactions and feelings as he is trying to overcome that hurdle.

Excellent DP work.

OK, I've got the feedback I wanted.. I just want to get some opinions on my work because I get "blind" so fast and It feels good to know it was accepted..

I'll take the file down in a few hours. If people want to know more or see it again feel free to contact me.

Email: fta@home.se
or just write me a PM here...

Now for the questions and I'm going to answer them as good as I can..

1.
"I don't understand whether this is a short film, documentary, commercial or something else you are trying to do."
A: I'm doing an extreme sports video/film with gymnastics/acrobatics and martialarts. But not any other extreme sports video, I focus on great video, sound and production..

2."What camera?"
A: Canon XL1S (standard lens) Manual mode..

3."What method did you use to achieve the slo-mo?"
A: I used vegas resample function.. I filmed it interlaced (otherwise the slomo don't work) and at 1/100th to reduce blur.
(I use 25PAL)

4."I'd love to hear some details"
A: He is born 1981. Elite gymnast.... Nah, just kidding!:))
Most of the shots where taken in a studio with 2 lights.. Infact it
was 2 photograph lights (I used them as video lights) just did some white balance and I knew I was going black and white so it
didn't bother me that much.. One running shot and the final jump was shot in a Tennis complex. We got them to turn the lights off for our shots.. One light was used at these shots.. A daylight 1000W lamp... The cheapest way is to know people and borrow their lights!

Thanks again everybody for the nice feedback!

Very nice composition with such a "simple" setup... Kudos!
