I bought a Canon HX A1 June 29, 2007, It has a high rate of glitched on Sony Mini DV tapes about one every 4 to 5 min both audio and video, Some times it will work fine and other times the tapes will be full of glitches. Anybody else having this problem??? I have bought a Focus Fire Store to over come the problem but I would like the tapes to be useable also.

Use a better tape -- preferably one branded for HDV use, such as the Sony DVM-63HD, Canon HDVM-E63PR, JVC M-DV63PRHD or Panasonic AY-DVM63HD. That's the best way to avoid dropouts. Run a cleaning cassette for about five or six seconds before changing tape brands though.

Tom we use the Panasonic AMQ tapes period. We have shot about 30 hours with them and have had no problems at all. believe I watched every inch of them and audio and vidro are excellant.

I'm also using AMQ tapes and not having any problems. Sony tapes are wet lube and Pansonic tapes are dry lube. It seem that Canon cameras prefer dry lube

Which Sony tape are you using?

What seems odd to me is the length of he dropouts. If only one GOP is affected, there should be a problem for 15 frames, but the "freeze" lasts about 1.5 seconds - 40 PAL frames. In any case, cleaning seems to have done the trick for now. We shall see.
