DVinfo.net Support Group

After years of being a lurker I have suddenly become addicted to posting on DVinfo. I think I'm dealing with a serious medical addiction here. The symptoms include:

- Inability to stop reading DVinfo forums
- Rapidly declining productivity
- Compulsive need to check for thread updates
- Severe skin rash and hives

Is there a support group for this kind of thing?

Don Bloom March 5th, 2010 12:24 PM

Hi Reed, my name is Don and I'm an DVi-aholic. Welcome to the group! ;-0

Phil Murray March 5th, 2010 12:38 PM

Hi Reed and Don, my name is Phil and I'm an DVi-aholic, too.

I admit my addiction, but I really don't want to stop!

Reed Hewitt March 5th, 2010 02:01 PM

Well it looks like I'm in good company.

Don Bloom March 5th, 2010 03:30 PM

See I was here 2 1/2 hours ago and now I'm back. I needed my fix.
Glad I don't have to go to the local spot to get my "drug"

I don't have a DVi problem.

Michael Ojjeh March 5th, 2010 09:22 PM

HI ..My name is Michael, and I am addicted to DVinfo.

As soon as I see a computer, I check my e-mail then I go to DVinfo to see if there is any new posts, even when I am editing at night DVinfo is in the background where I can check it as I need a break from editing. there is something seriously wrong with us :)

Pete, it sounds like denial and of course the first thing towords cure is admitting you have a problem. I think an intervention might be needed. ;-)

Charles Papert March 5th, 2010 11:45 PM

Never posted here in my life. First time. That post count thingie under my name must be broken.

Robert Turchick March 6th, 2010 01:08 AM

Hi Reed, my name is Rob and I'm an DVi-aholic.

Nice one Charles!

Hmmm, if I spent more time at the local watering hole, I wouldn't be spending that time on DVi. Seems like a good intervention?

Don Bloom March 6th, 2010 07:43 AM

Works for me! WOOHOO!

Jim Schuchmann March 6th, 2010 07:56 AM

@Don & Pete - you guys aren't fooling anybody!! You'd find a watering hole with wifi and take your laptop!

I didn't know it was okay to turn it off. Really!?! What if a new piece of equipment or firmware gets released? Or someone finally comes out with the perfect lens?

NO, NO, NO you can't make me turn it off!!!

Don Bloom March 6th, 2010 08:53 AM

SSSSHHHHHHH! My "sponsor" isn't supposed to know about the laptop.

Bill Thesken March 6th, 2010 01:12 PM

I only post after 5 PM. Hey, it's 5 PM somewhere in the world....right?

Chris Hurd March 6th, 2010 02:27 PM

Welcome to the Forum DV Info

(with apologies to Felder, Frey and Henley)

Information Superhighway, I just sit and stare
Warm smell of fresh coffee, clicking links here and there

Upon the first page at Google, I could learn HD tonight
My wrist grew weary and my mouse stopped then
I had to check out this site

There it was in the browser; I found the message board
And as I read the FAQ it said 'There will be no flaming or platform wars'

They've got some volunteer mods who run this place
Keep the peace ejecting all the clowns, they do it for no pay...

Welcome to the Forum DV Info
Such a busy place, such a dizzy pace

Plenty of threads at the Forum DV Info
Any type of gear, you can find it here

Widescreen and switchable frame rates, an interchangeable lens
It's got a lot of menu choices, all those latest trends
How they post in the forum, buyer's regret.
Some post that they're happy, some post they're upset.

So I emailed Pete Bauer, 'Please take me offline'
He said, 'The internet has been around since 1969'

And still those Aussies keep joining from far away,
Stay up late to all hours of the night just to say Good Day...

Welcome to the Forum DV Info
It's in cyberspace, wear your happy face

They're chatting it up at the Forum DV Info
Learning from the wise, and how to improvise

Real names in the listings, the sponsors got your price,
Hurd said, 'We have a search tool here, and please be more concise'

Discuss homemade adapters, those big plans never cease
They spin a CD for their relay mirror, but they just can't build the piece

Last thing I remember, I was reading page forty-four
I had to use the breadcrumb nav to find the thread I read before

'Refresh,' said Jeff Kramer, 'Server load times will decrease'
You can log out any chance you get, but you can never leave...

Michael Ojjeh March 6th, 2010 03:48 PM

Wow Chris, that is pretty good, the guy with multi-talent :)..of all the people on the forum I'm sure you go to sleep with the keyboard next to your pillow.

Brilliant! and set to one of my favorite tunes!

Chris Hurd March 6th, 2010 04:32 PM

Actually it's the other way around, Michael -- pillow next to keyboard. Heh. Thanks,

Reed Hewitt March 8th, 2010 07:51 AM

Wow, Chris! I'll never listen to Hotel California the same way again. That was awesome on so many different levels.

Thank you all for introducing yourselves and helping me see that my addiction to DVinfo is merely a pale shadow compared to the level of obsession that some have attained. Which of course means I need to spend a LOT more time on the forums!

Robert Martens March 8th, 2010 08:21 AM

I'm with Pete; I don't have a problem, I can quit any time I want to. I just don't want to.

I've managed to keep my post count relatively low over the years, but I make up for it with time spent lurking. DVi's not my homepage, but I swear I'm wandering around the forums every minute or so, whenever I need a distraction from something more important I should be doing.

I wonder if the server's got stats on the total time each of us has spent logged in...

Dale Guthormsen March 8th, 2010 07:41 PM

Ahhhhh,

I recognise almost every name on this list. Guess I am amonst those needing aid as well. Best aid would be more time to work on the postings!!!

After reading chris' piece, I might have to compsoe some music for it!!!

At least I did not lose my job over it, wait a minute, I don't have a real job!!

This is the only computer site I actually attend with any consistancy.

Great place to be if your not out shooting.

Also good if you are waiting on a render!!!

Dale said, "After reading chris' piece, I might have to compose some music for it!!!"

Don't bother. The Eagles, Hotel California.
Now you'll have more time to feed your addicition.

Great lyrics! Except I get that darn tune stuck in my head every time I happen to see this thread. We won't talk about how often that is...

Chris Barcellos March 9th, 2010 11:41 AM

Help me, the DVInfo.net logo is burnt into all my computer screens..
