Windows is already available for a lot of the top cell phones out their but maybe Microsoft should make their own version and call it either the MicroPhone or the X-BOX Phone or how about the xPhone.

The PSP phone may not get released until next year at the earliest but around a couple of months from now you may see a redesign of the PSP

Notable features include LED backlit which will allow for much, much longer battery life, 8 gigs of built in flash storage which is the same amount that the 600 dollar iPhone will use and as for the physical body, it will be slimmer and have a much more comfortable control scheme. Depending on the price point it may actually have a camera as well.
If the rumor ends up being true then I don’t think it will be 170 dollars that the site is indicating because of the 8 gigs of flash memory. If I were to give a prediction I would estimate the price to be anywhere from around 200 to 230 dollars.

You basically have a PSP that will compete with the iPhone and a slimmer, cheeper model to compete with the Nintendo DS Lite.

It’s a very smart move on Sony’s part for allowing media content to be streamed from the PS3 to the PSP wirelessly but they really need to add support for more video files. There is an extremely good chance that you will be able view YouTube content on the iPhone so Sony does need to reconsider their strategy. Besides, since the PSP can handle H.264 videos up to 720X480 then supporting other video format shouldn’t be impossible and that definitely goes for the PS3 as well since it is capable of handling 1920x1080 H.264 videos at a bit rate of up to 54Mbps.

I hope Sony will launch a handset for PS3, so I can use it for my landline...

Hello? I want a PHONE I can talk on so people can actually understand what I"m saying and I can also understand them.

Isn't it ridiculous to have all these fancy gadgets and still have an audio quality worse than a landline back 100 years ago???

The Mylo 2 has a 3.5” 480x800 LCD screen, Wi-Fi, the ability to easily upload and download content from the web and get this, you can actually watch flash videos from sites such as YouTube all for $300. In order for Sony to release it at that price there is one very important feature that's missing and that’s Bluetooth, meaning you wont be able to go online by linking it up with your cell phone.

If Sony can make a cell phone with features that you’ll find in the PSP and the Mylo 2 and obviously add Bluetooth and hopefully DivX playback, I can easily see this thing being an extremely close competitor to the iPhone. It may seam expensive but cell phone companies can easily subsidies the phone by $200 just like what AT&T is going to do to the new 3G iPhone. It better not be locked to only one phone company in the U.S.




It’s been over a year since I first posted this and it’s still a rumor.

Hmm... They got beat up pretty bad in the market today after disappointing the Street with Sony Ericsson cell phone results. I think the $200 iPhone is going to be very hard to beat with a product like this. I think they're coming to the party pretty late.

In fact, I just sold my Sony stock today and took a nice gain from buying near the bottom. I've always been a big fan of their products, and own quite a few. I like Sir Howard and wish them well, but their new strategy seems misguided to me (see: http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=124802)

This confirms that Sony and Ericsson will not be working on a PSP phone together but it doesn’t mean Sony won’t be working on a PSP phone alone. The new rumor is saying that Sony is working on it without Ericsson’s involvement.

If this phone gets all of the features that I mentioned earlier, I really do think it’ll be a close competitor to the iPhone especially if Sony decides to give it to more than one Phone Company in each territory.

Since the rumor is stating that it wouldn’t be out until the end of 2009, I wouldn’t be surprised if it came with a mini HDMI port to allow you to hook it up to an HDTV to playback 720p videos. That’s not farfetched when you consider that the PSP has component output.

Well I don't have a crystal ball, but I really don't see that happening. The whole point of the iPhone is that it appeals to a broad spectrum of people, and has great promise in the business sector. C'mon now, do think any businesses will buy a product branded as a "PlayStation". If I understand what Sony is up to (based on the links you posted), it's going to be a niche product which appeals to kids and gamers.

Aside from that, competition is brutal in the smartphone arena. I think it would be a big mistake for Sony to even attempt to compete with Apple and RIM there. Of course, that doesn't mean they won't give it a shot.
