I was going to purchase the Sanyo HD1000 from a guy who is on these forums for a decent price, but some family stuff came up and could not buy it, at least for a month.... I'm Also looking at the Sony CX7, which is the better for the buck?

Sanyo is 600+ while the Sony is 1000+, most of my filming will consist of this:

David, from the samples I've seen the CX7 shoots sharper video and has better IS.
But, the HD1000 shoots avc.X264 which means the clips are editable on many computers not needing support for AVCHD- this might be of importance if you're gonna edit the videos- the CX7's clips will likely need trans-coding.

So you'll need to weigh the pros/cons of each.

Steve thanks, i'm running Windows Vista X64Bit 4gig Ram Intel Core 2 Quad processor, editing video is not an issue with me or my PC, though editing the sanyo videos were quite easy, i had the HD2.

I like the hd1000 because of the portability, but i have been loving the footage i have seen with the CX7!

I'll keep doing some research... i'd liek to see some footage of Fast movements with the CX7 though1

Well since you're willing to spend almost $1000 on the CX7- I suggest you wait a short while more til the newer AVCHD cams come out- I'm sure the Canon's will improve on the already "best in class" HG10.
I too like the CX7 and the Sony's hard-drive version's but these new cams are sure to improve on the video quality side....if you can wait a tiny bit longer you can choose from the newer lower priced units and see which fits your needs best.
But in all honesty you wont go wrong with the CX7- it's really good!

My biggest gripe with the HD1000 is inability to exposure lock and the crushed blacks in dim video- oher than that it's a nice camera with great portability.

i need more of a solid state camera.... i will be going to the mountains and filming mountain biking events and if i drop an HDD camcorder I'd not only lose the data but there is risk the Hard Drive mail fail....

definitely looking for Solid State!

David, Canon has a new Vixia that might be what you're looking for.....stay tuned.

If you do get the CX-7 let us know how you like it.

Those come out in may, i'm going to need a camera before then! Shoooot!

Quick Question, if i wanted to ho HDD Camera which would you recommend? i know there are ones that cost less than the CX7. i'm also interested in a Standard Def. Not weighing out he standard Fed camera as well!

I definitely agree that it’s better to wait for the newer camcorder but if you must have a camcorder right now, I would suggest you run to your nearest Sony Style store immediately and see if they have any CX7 camcorders in stock. The store in Boston has it for around $450 but theirs only one left. Maybe it’s getting a replacement soon.

ok guys i did some research and i'm taking the Canon HG10 Plunge... i'll just have to be extra care with it since it's Hard drive!

David- the HG10 is the supposed "Best" AVCHD cam out currently.....let us know what you think.

I was in the store yesterday and that’s what one of the workers told me. If I have never bought the PS3 and they had that deal right before I went on vacation, I would have taken the plunge. If anybody lives around Boston, just head over to Copley Place and look for the SonyStyle store inside.

Rather or not it was open box items or the guy made a mistake in the model name is beyond me but I’m certain that he did say it was an HD camcorder.

Just remember -don't go over 10,000 feet with the HDD. It will crash! An air cushion keeps the head off the spinning drive - not much air up there.
