Question for Vegas Platinum or Vegas8 users
 

I am considering a HF100 or SR11 and have a question on the work flow with ether in Vegas.
Specifically is the ingest of AVCHD native in Vegas? If so what do you guys do with it after edit?
Can one output the footage back in AVCHD to a SDHC card or DVD preserving the 1920x1080 30P or 60i? In other words is there a way to preserve the quality of the original footage and just edit it and output back to a choice of media in ether version of Vegas?

its native from both to vegas 8 drop it on the timeline and go, direct edits work fine, Vegas will not do a proper 24P pulldown for the canon if shot in 24P, and you can output to MTS in full 1920x1080, but the canon at least will not be able to play it unless it was captured in camera, they have no way to find new media on the card, it only has a record of what was shot and if that is deleted I do not think there is any way to even put it back on the playlist in camera. It may be possible to trick the camera by naming it the same as another file and playing, the thumbnail will not be correct and I don't think it will work, but I have not checked personally so it may be possible.

Thank you for your reply. So, I gather Vegas will only support Canon files shot in 60i or 30p. Is that a correct assumption? Also, I did not specify in the original post that my aim is to be able to play the edited file using the PS3 without losing any information from the original file. I have a trial version of Vegas and downloaded a raw AVC file but can't figure out the render part. I tried to render it using Sony AVC but it listed only up to 1440x1080. Next I used MainConcept MPEG2 with 1980 BlueRay setting but it would not play in PS3. Also what is better: to render the file in 30p format or 60i and let PS3 or the TV do the pull down. The TV is an LSD type.

If it is like HV20 HDV, Vegas edits the 24p in a 1080i timeline, and will still exhibit the 24p cadence. However best way to do it is to you Cineform HDV to convert files with pull down removal. It is my understanding NeoHDV will now do so with AVCHD files. Check with David Newman over at Cineform forum.

Vegas MSP wont render to 1920x1080.
The highest it will go is 1440x1080 (HDV standard) as you have found out.

Did you try renaming the file output by the main concept codec to .mpg?

in vegas 8 you can select the sony avc and just choose the setting and then custom size it to 1920x1080 and change the aspect from 1.3333 to 1.0

In Vegas pro i can only find 2 settings for AVCHD output. Both the 5.1 surround sound ones (PAL and NTSC)but neither will let me change them to 1920x1080.
Both are set to 1440x1080 at 1.333. Not a problem, just thought i would see if im missing something.
