SD9 Support Natively with QT 7.5 and FCP 6.0.3

Just read this on another forum.

Also works with the updated iMovie 7.1.2.

When I mean by natively is that the footage will be log and transferred to AIC or ProRes, not native AVCHD editing.

Please clarify and/or cite the source posting. FCP already allows Log and Transfer of AVCHD files provided you transcode to (huge) AIC or ProRes. Is there something new?

It has worked with some AVCHD footage from various cams.

But the Panasonic SD9 has consistently crashed both apps on log and transfer.

What is new is what I stated. SD9 now works with QT 7.5, which was released earlier this week. Also works in iMovie 7.1.2, which was released earlier this week.

Transcoding is still required.

My Canon HF 100 has always worked, though it IS a bit flakey. The ProRes 422 files, however, are humongous. This wouldn't be a problem for a given project, except for archiving. At about 90 gigs an hour, back up long term requires a prohibitive amount of time and blank DL DVD's.

Of course, I archive the original AVCHD files using the Canon DVD AVCHD burner, but it's an act of faith because, so far, Apple doesn't support reading these discs. Until they do, the discs are just shiny coasters that I can play on a BluRay player or Canon's DVD burner. I am unaware of any way of getting those files back onto my hard drive since the Mac OSX doesn't natively recognize Blu-Ray or AVCHD. I am aware of third party solutions but would prefer a Apple supported one.
