AVCHD editing - machine specs
I have an Intel Core 2 6700 overclocked to 3.2 GHz with 6 GB of memory. 64 bit WIndows 7 OS. Vegas 10 Pro.
Is that sufficient to edit AVCHD? |
I'm using Vegas Pro 10 on an i7 CPU, originally with 6 GB of RAM, and now 12 GB of RAM. ( the extra helps to speed things up with larger projects, but generally is not necessary )
AVCHD editing is very smooth with my i7 processor, much more so than my previous Intel Quad 6600 CPU. Here's a Tom's Hardware video benchmark using Premiere CS5 that will give you some idea of how the different Intel processors compare when editing video with Premiere CS5: Tom's Hardware Video Editing Benchmark: Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 I imagine that using your current 6700 processor might be a bit on the slow side, but definitely do-able if you are willing to be patient. Otherwise I would look at upgrading to the new Intel "Sandy Bridge" CPUs once the current SATA bug has been fixed. ( should be sorted out by March ) "Sandy Bridge" CPUs are very cheap and very powerful. |
Thanks! I do agree, the Sandy Bridge CPUs definitely are worth a look.
