New member: 2 questions regarding AVCHD

Hi all,

Please forgive my ignorance.

1) Is it possible to move the high def recordings from the HDR-SR1 directly to an external storage device *without* a laptop? I ask this because my wife and I will be in Greece for five weeks and 30 gig hard drive space in high def will not last long at all. I suspect I'll need my laptop with an external hard drive - as much as I hate to take that to an island on vacation...

2) Regarding the AVCHD files that I burn to DVD... Can those DVDs be played back on a HD DVD format player or are they strictly limited to Blu Ray high definition?

TIA,

Dave

1. I never tried but I don't think that's possible ( you need the laptop )

2. my understanding is you will be able to play back using bluray player and with Sony playstation 3

An external drive, an sdhc card reader and an internet cafe

I would imagine the easiest thing to do is to take an external hard drive and a mini sdhc card reader with you on holiday. When your sdhc cards are full go to the nearest internet cafe and transfer the files to your external hard drive through the usb connections. It would save you the hassle of going on holiday with your laptop.

Thanks for the input, gents!
PS, I ended up buying a small external 160 Gig HD and suspect I'll take the new laptop with me. My wife is hinting that way... :-)
