Displaying Interlace Fields versus Frames
 

I have a few ?'s concerning how Avid Xpress Pro 5.8.4 displays interlaced frames. Essentially, I want to be able to view and investage the fields that make up interlaced frames.

1) When paused on a frame, does Aivd deinterlace both fields to create the still image or does it display one field and use that field to interpolate the missing field?

2) Is there a way to view interlaced footage fields, not frames? I've tried the Full Screeen Playback setting "Display Both Fields," but can't tell any difference between having it turned on or off when viewing 60i footage either Full Screen or the Composer window. Other Full Screen Playback settings do work.

One obvious reason for looking at the field level is to see if the 60i footage is actually 24PsF.

Sometimes I don't know the settings for the source footage that I capture. So I know it's 60i but I don't know if it's 24P recorded to a 60i timeline or just 60i. I can normally tell just by watching, but I'd really like to be able to see individual fields.

I found my answer. Avid displays the first field by default. There are step forward/backward by one field buttons on the Command Palette. I've mapped these to keys 4 and 3.

A small "2" in the upper right of the monitor indicates field 2 is being displayed.
