Underexposure contributes to noise just like high ISO. You cannot get a good picture if you starve any sensor of light.

Maybe I should have tried ISO 5,000? or 6400?

But then you would be blowing out your talent.

Not sure Gary. The room had some weak tungsten cans overhead that were dimmed on the talent while the rest of the room was a light eating cave. Thankfully these situations are rare for me. The other event oriented shoots I have done lately had better light levels, I shot a series for Glaxo SmithKline in Philadelphia and London and their training rooms are actually very nicely, brightly lit.

Shot a corporate gig at the Marriott in Marina Del Ray last week and I was actually able to light the talent at the podium. I don't do much event work thankfully and I usually am lighting talent just how I want them to look but it is interesting that I have seen some low light documentary footage shot with the C100 that looked quite nice. Neat Video is definitely in my future.

If you rely on found lighting, then it is what it is.

That's exactly why I dislike shooting events, I am a DP, I much prefer being able to shape and control my light, but bills gotta be paid.

Yep, I share the sentiment.
