Since you are in LA, NAB starts next week in Vegas - I am sure you could check them out there. And have a blast at the biggest toy show for folks of our ilk as well.

Jon B and Jon F - What would you think of this device for holding the HoodLoupe onto the 7D - look at the demo video - it is attached to the 7d and seems to come on and off very easily and moves out of the way for regular still shots?

The HoodCrane looks flexible - but hopefully in function, not construction. Hopefully, it will be at NAB so I can check it out.

I saw the Hoodman and the Zacuto yesterday at NAB. The Hoodman will work fine - the edges of the image were blurred a little but it should not impede you. I liked the Zacuto better but I'm not sure which version I looked at (3.0 or 2.5). I'll have to go back and check.

The Hoodcrane looks like a big solution - too big. However I do like the idea of it swinging away from the LCD.

The Redrock holder works well but I was just amazed that they got $55 plus shipping from me for what is essentially a thin strip of metal.
The hooman 3.0 is fine - I actually prefer 1:1 and not blowing up the screen.

I tested the Hoodcrane today. It works well. Though you can slide the loupe around with your hand, once you push your eye socket against it, it stays perfectly in place and seals out stray light. I agree that it's big and doesn't look very elegant, but it functions quite well.

I ordered one of these just to try it out since the HoodCrane won't be out for another month or two - they had two prices on the website so, obviously, I chose the $ 39.50 price and they included Fedex Priority Overnight with it. (no extra charge beyond the $ 39.50)

I ordered the Mag 3.0 (just have the regular HoodEye now) - did the magnification distort the image on the LCD?

No, the lines are straight, even with the Mag 3.0.
