Just a thought, no basis in actual tests...

I tend to doubt this, as I am using 60Mbs cards. Also, video recording on the 7D the amount of information transfer is not that high. Shooting RAW stills actually benefits more from the higher speed cards. Good thought, though.

I think the card type can in fact, if not exclusively, be at cause.

Another shooter was having his 550d overheating in 2 minutes at normal ambient temperatures until he replaced his memory card.

Here's the link, it might make you laugh. :)

I find that my 7D only overheats when the CF card is over 85% full. Otherwise no issues at all.

First time I used my 7D at an outdoor wedding, it overheats like crazy, despite standing under a shade. I had to switch off and on almost every 15 minutes, luckily it didn't die on me during the important parts.

Following that, strangely enough, it never overheats again. I thought the firmware update fixed it and I did upgrade my CF to a 60MB/s.

Although I haven't yet try it in the summer season here in Australia where the ambient temp is 30-40 deg C. Maybe I should prepare some of those ice packs now as I'm entering summer in a month time...

The latest firmware helped a lot and since updating it I have no heat warnings anymore. Before the update it happened mostly in 720/50p mode as if the camera had to "work harder" resulting in getting warm.

Thanks.

Johnnie
