Re: Magic Lantern for 60D!
On the 5D2, there is an analog, TRRS, A/V output.
Rather than "headphone output", I should have written "audio or A/V output." Without that, the firmware would have nothing to enable! |
Re: Magic Lantern for 60D!
Just the other day (before having any knowledge of ML) I updated my 60D to firmware 1.1.0 from 1.0.5.
Is anyone running ML on a 60D with 1.1.0? Are there downgrade options to 1.0.9 or does ML work on 1.1.0? |
Re: Magic Lantern for 60D!
Latest version is for 1,09. You would have to downgrade, but check before doing it - I have never tried this and don't know what possible issues are.

Re: Magic Lantern for 60D!
My 60D has firmware 1.0.5 and I want to use ML, but only firmware 1.1.0 is available on Canon's web site.
Where can I get firmware 1.0.9 to make ML work ? |

Frustratingly hard for all of us non-Japanese speakers, but I managed to find it on the Japanese Canon site :
http://cweb.canon.jp/drv-upd/dc/eos60d-v109-win.html http://cweb.canon.jp/drv-upd/dc/eos60d-v109-mac.html I hope there's no difference between firmwares posted on Japanese site and USA/European sites... cheers, Jon |

Re: Magic Lantern for 60D!
ML has been updated to run with 1.1.0 on 60D!
Andy has it listed in the section "Experiments" but it's running on my 60D fw1.1.0 and although it seems to be working I'm new to ML so I have a lot of learning to do with it, starting by understanding all the menu functions. I've read the manual through once and it seems pretty straight forward (if you understood all the Canon menu functions). Here's the link to ML download listed under "Experiments." [QUOTE=Sam Kanter;1636102]60D owners who want this amazing software for their cameras - make a small contribution, Alex the developer will be able to buy one. He's half-way there already!
Sam, thank you for posting this. not only this is invaluable post but the ML hack is a fantastic idea. Looks like the beta version is out for 60D and other cameras, I will try it as soon as I get my camera recovered after an accident... cant wait to try it. This hack also made me consider upgrading to 5D; now that it has more features for taking video :) no disrespect to an amazing camera. I will be definitely donating to this project, regardless if they need new camera or not. We all should reward this guy for keeping up his amazing work. |
Re: Magic Lantern for 60D!
The 1.09 release for 60D is incredible and seems totally stable. One great feature is a built-in user guide. When on menu item, push "info" button and it goes to that section of the manual, right on your LCD screen - brilliant, and much needed due to the abundance of features ML offers.

Re: Magic Lantern for 60D!
I finally got around to installing ML (1.0.9 version).
I was performing on Thursday, and wanted to document the performance, meaning I needed the ablity to leave the camera unattended. with ML's movie restart feature and a 32GB card I was able to leave the camera running for close to 2 hours. As far as stability - I "succeded" in freezing the camera 4 times in the 2-3 days since installing ML. With that said, all freezes occured while I was poking around in the original Canon menus. None of them happened while changing basic camera settings or ML menus |

Canon They usually have on line the last and the previous versions of any driver/firmware they offer and, from past experiences, I've found they normally beat the US site by at least 2-5 days in new releases. I, for one, like much more the Aussies web page layout and navigation experience in general. Hope this helps. |
1.1.0 works perfectly so far
By the way, I wanted to comment that I had being using my 60D with the new 1.1.0 firmware for 2 weeks aprox. (without ML, of course) when I was aware of the ML port being given the alpha rating. I read the latest posts in the google groups and the "unified" instructions in wikia page like two days after I had installed ML from Alex's beta 1.1.0 port so, a little spooked by the dire warnings, I downgraded the firmware and installed the ML alpha (1.0.9) port just to find that it works exactly the same. After a day of tests I re-upgraded both firmware and ML to 1.1.0. It works perfectly and without a glitch that couldn't be blamed on my inexperience with the software. I'm still learning and trying out new stuff (this thing is multi-layered and deep!). If you're an instructions reader before use kind of person you're not gaining any advantage from the learn by use guy because of the excellent on-line tutorials that are just a "info" button push away.
So far 1.1.0 is as stable as the 1.0.9 and haven't noticed any differences. |
Re: Magic Lantern for 60D!
Thanks Hector :)
The 1.0.9 firmware from the Japanese site, (to which I posted the link above) works fine for me with ML. But it's good to know about the Australian site for future reference. |
Re: Magic Lantern for 60D!
Yes and they (Canon), so far offer exactly the same firmware everywhere they sell EOS cameras. I strongly suspect that any differences between markets lies just in branding (the Kiss, Rebel or EOS number thing).

Re: Magic Lantern for 60D!
Hi all,
I just got the Canon 60D. I have the Canon 10d and the Sony FX7 video camera. I have read al the posts on the Ml software. Does this software allow th camera to do full continous autofuce like my Sony? This is something I think the 60d is really Lacking and a real reason to install the firmware. Why can't the camera just format in FAT32 file system. Wouldn't the camera then be able to record longer than 12 minutes? John Gerard |
Re: Magic Lantern for 60D!
Hi,
Just one other small question. When my one card gets full and I want to switch cards, how do I do it? Do I need to copy the ML software to all my SD cards? So the camera does not crash. John Gerard Quote:

Re: Magic Lantern for 60D!
I answered my own question. Which is that I do have to copy ML files to al my SD cards.

Re: Magic Lantern for 60D!
I shoot a lot of high speed FPS shooting. My Sony FX-7 shoots a 45 second burst of 120 FPS. The 60D can do 1280x720p at 60 FPS. what, if anyone knows is the maximum FPS that the 60d could be pushed. And can we get the developer of ML to add that to the Software.
Thanks, John Gerard |
Re: Magic Lantern for 60D!
Woah, only realise that there's ML for the 60D today!
Where have I been?!?! Cinemascope and Auto Restart sounds like the biggest pluses for me. Time to get some hack...tweaking on tonight... |
Re: Magic Lantern for 60D!
I just wanted to say please donate something to the cause. I donated about 18-$20us and the newest 2.3 firmware for my Canon 60D is well worth that price if just for the Audio Monitoring function not including all the other great features. And this helps the developers continue to add even more great features and allowing them to spend more of their time on the project.

Re: Magic Lantern for 60D!
I've installed ML onto my camera, followed instructions, but I cannot bring up the ML menu by pressing the trash button.
I've tried this with two memory cards now, a 32 and 64 gb and neither one will bring up the menu with the trash button. Any ideas? Thanks, I'm leaving this site to donate to ML - RIGHT NOW! |

I'm in a pinch.
Camera will not take photos, 32mg card says its full and 64mg card, camera will not start up. Here's what I did: (have latest firmware - formatted card in camera) 1) installed ml onto 32gb card, then onto camera (got install success screen) 2) pressed trash button to bring up ML menu, didnt come up, card said "full" 3) copied ml files to 64gb card thinking ml was taking up too much space 4) press trash button for menu, nothing happens 5) installed macboot onto card, camera does not start with 64gb card and will not take photo with 32gb card, says "card full" when nothing is on either card other than ml root files. Completely stuck, please advise |
Re: Magic Lantern for 60D!

I tried reformatting the 32gb card in the 60d it doesn't have an option for ML, just to reformat it the standard way, which I did, still says the card is full.
Reformatted the 64gb card in the disk utility the camera still does not boot from it and the icon on the desktop now looks different from what it normally looks like.. help ! To conclude: 32gb card is full (no pics no other folders) 64gb card camera wont boot |
Re: Magic Lantern for 60D!
Sounds like there's something seriously wrong with the 32g card. The 64g card won't boot because it didn't have ML on it.
I don't know the minutiae, but I had to repeat the install procedure for each individual SD card so they would all work with ML. If you depower the camera completely, and remove any cards then turn it on, it should revert to normal and you can start again with the 64g |
Re: Magic Lantern for 60D!
Hi,
;just a few quick ideas. Try the following at your own risk. I have the Canon 60d. First, make sure you have the correct Canon Firmware installed for the version of ML you are trying to install. I had to update my Canon Firmware before continuing to install version 2.3. There are a few videos on Youtube that show you how to install Ml on your 60d.. I have Version 2.3 installed on my 60d using 16GB and 32GB Sandisk SD cards. So basically once you have the correct Canon firmware version installed next is to format your SD cards. I did this in the camera. Then I downloaded the ML zip file and unzipped the ML files. I then copied all unzipped files to the Root directory of the SD card.. I then put the SD card back into my camera. I next set the Camera in to "M" (manual mode). This is important! Then I went to the menu where it has update firmware. Select update firmware as thought you are going to update the Canon firmware again. Once ML says update Successful then turn off camera and turn camera back on again. Then everything should be installed. You need to repeat this procedure on every SD card you want to use with the camera. There is one video from "cadwickpaulpost" that shows you how to install ML on Youtube except he does not say to update the Canon firmware first. Imho slow down and double check that you did not miss a step. Also make sure you have a fully charged battery installed before you start. As for the cards saying full I am not sure. Check the cards in your computer and see what the computer says as to whether there is information on the card or any hidden file and the amount of GB used on the card if any. If the card reads 0kb free but does not show and files on the card then mybe there are some hidden files on the card. if you can format the SD card in your computer try that and then try formatting the SD card in your camera again.. Maybe someone else will be of more help on this issue. John Gerard |
Re: Magic Lantern for 60D!
Note on 64GB cards with Magic Lantern:
Your initial install of ML can't be done with a 64GB card, 32GB is the max. Once installed on the camera, a 64GB card with ML files will run fine. (per ML documentation, see the install pdf in the ML zip folder, or find it here: install [Magic Lantern wiki]) |
