A couple of questions:

What is the ring on the lens for?

Also how do you deal with the lens extending? Do you adjust the matte box forward and backwards whenever the lens extends?

The gear on the lens is for adjusting focus easier.

I pretty much use the matte box as lens hood only. it is attached to the lens so it will move along when the lens extended.

It looks as if the plane of the lens is not parallel with the rods in that photo. Leaning forward or optical illusion?

How rigid is the lens in relation to the rods?

I was testing the setup with different combinations. Didn't tighten it all the way. That's why it sort of tilted down.

Hey what kind of matte box is that and where can I get one? Also, how much did it cost?

Looks good man. I need one of those dual hot-shoe adapters for my camera. Was bummed having to choose between a light or a mic on my cam the other night when I was shooting.

Also, I really want that lens, but damn is it pricey. Anyone know if the Tamron OIS is anywhere near as good as Canon's?

This is the matte box I have
80mm Matte box with French flag for DV and HDV cameras Normal camera lenses

However, there is a problem with it since it is 4:3. I first use it on my Canon 70-200mm F2.8L. Now with the 17mm wide angle, it shows a dark edge on left and right. I have to trim some part of the left and right edge to get rid of the dark edge.

Check out this thread

another member is regreting getting the tamron because of the OIS noise. I don't like tamron because it has the different zoom ring and focus ring direction the canon.

For the Canon lens, I can set to AF and still be able to adjust the focus ring. I can't do that with Tokina or Sigma.

Oh sweet. I'll have to pick one of those adapters up then for sure. Also I had forgotten about the backwards-ness of the Tamron's. Looks like I'll just have to keep saving for the Canon.
