magic lantern firmware on 550D

Hi,
I don't get the firmware update to work.

I put the fir file on the SD card and do the update process. If I do not restart the camera I can use ML. But as soon as I restart I loose the firmware update, it is 1.0.9 again and no bootflag, so no ML.

I have no clue why. Can anyone help? Why does my 550d loose the firmware update after reboot?

thx

Do a search on youtube for exact instructions. Majic lantern doesn't updated the firmware, it resides on the sd card. Once it sees it on the sd card it will boat up.

Hi,
that is not right.
ML is on the sd card, but I have to update the firmware in order to get the bootflag. There is my problem.

BTW: I tried every instruction already. They all start with updating the firmware and a restart. When I do this the firmware update is gone.

I thought you are supposed to use the CHDK utility to set the bootflag, not update the firmware? Did you read through the pdf that has step by step instructions that comes with the download?

Did you install the update using the .fir file (in manual or P mode)?

Did you make the card bootable?

Hi.

Problem solved. In another forum they told me, that the card is not bootable. Although I used macboot it didn't prepare the card. So I used the make_bootable.sh script and tried it again. I didn't have to do the update again, just turned it on and the old firmware update was there again.

Thx everyone.

Re: magic lantern firmware on 55D

You do 2 things.

1 - Use the .fir file to UPDATE THE CAMERAS FIRMWARE. In this step you set the bootflag IN THE CAMERA. This step you can do with any unprepared SD card, very simple.

2 - Now that the cameras firmware is updated you have to prepare the sd card in order to make it bootable, so that the camera, that has the boot flag, can boot from it. Therefore I tried the mac_boot tool, that didn't work. Later I tried the make_bootable.sh that did the job.

Now it is working and I am truly impressed with what I've seen so far.
