how to view available memory on t3i
 

this is driving me nuts. I scanned the owners manual and forums. Maybe I'm not finding the best words for google to get the hint of what i need...

On my t2i's I can view available memory on the card by pressing menu, then disp... How can I see what I have left on the t3i without going to the dangerous format screen?

On both my 550D and 60D, If I push the Q-menu button it will display the recording time remaining next to the recording format. I'm guessing the t3i should work the same way.

If it's specifically memory remaining (as opposed to time remaining) that you want to know, then I don't know of any other way than going to the format screen.

How about installing Magic Lantern? It gives a live readout on the viewfinder.

Install Magic Lantern and you will have time elapse, time remaining on the card, time remaining for 4 Gig limit and many more features great for shooting video.

If you are on the main screen for photo mode and not in live view, you can just hit the info button and it should be there.
